From Non-CSE background to GSoC- Recap of 2022 #DevRetro

Happy New Year everyone! 🥳 As I enter into the new year, I wanted to share my 2022 Rewind✨

TL;DR of my 2022:

1️⃣Dineout Internship- Jan 2022 :

I started the year with internship at Dineout (Times Internet) where I worked with an extremely talented team. I gained both technical and soft skills. The mentorship I received changed the course of my year from skills and career perspective.

2️⃣Offline college begins- March 2022:

As college reopened after the pandemic it was challenging to adapt to the new surroundings. New hostel, managing internship and college along with Open Source contributions. The change from working from home to now working from a hostel was the ultimate game changer for me. The new environment after 2 years of staying at home was refreshing. This was the time when I had the most fun and the best work.

3️⃣Applying to GSoC and acceptance-April-May 2022:

Applying to GSoC was one of my biggest wins of the year. I clearly remember how scared I was while drafting my proposal for submission. I was so overwhelmed that I would leave my draft incomplete and reconsider applying every few minutes. With constant support from my sister, I finally submitted my proposal. All the late nights and early mornings that I spent working on my contributions and proposal paid off when I received the acceptance mail at 3 in the morning on 21st May. 🥳

4️⃣Google Summer of Code- June-September 2022:

June was tough because I was doing both an offline internship and GSoC simultaneously. As a GSoC student, I had the most amazing time. Sometimes we had to schedule meetings late at night or even early morning but it was fun. I am extremely grateful to my mentor Sean Goggins who helped me at every stage. Initially, I used to feel lost and it took me time to understand the needs of my project. I continued to write code, late night debugging and unexpectedly the project tech Vue along with Python was the top language in my GitHub wrap. 🚀

5️⃣ Placement- Aug-October 2022:

The most hectic and emotionally challenging phase of 2022. Looking back at it today, I feel good to have survived placement preparation, interviews, rejections, exams and bad health. It was during this time that I gave my Google interview for a 6-month internship. Interacting with Googlers was the best thing that happened during this period. The meetings and the subsequent interview calls were a great learning experience, although it did not end on a positive note as I could not clear the final rounds of my interview. :(

I spoke at my first offline event during Hacktoberfest 🎙️ and took a much-needed break, took care of my health after suffering from dengue and celebrated my birthday in November. 😇

6️⃣Keploy- December 2022:

I started with DevRel as a contributor @Keploy. Met amazing people, wrote blogs and continued with contributions.

2022 is the year I'll remember forever!🙌

Some days were filled with beautiful memories I've created with the people I love the most while some were the most difficult days to ever experience.🥺 2022 had many downs but significant ups that made me who I am today. ❤️

Stronger and wiser into the new. Let’s begin with 2023💪
