What is Cloud Computing?☁

The ‘Cloud’ is a real buzzword, but what is it, why is it important for you and is it anything really new?

If you’ve ever edited a Google Doc or uploaded files to Dropbox, then you’ve already leveraged cloud computing! The Cloud is the solution to the problem of how the Internet can help improve Business Technology, and it is growing exponentially. What is Cloud Computing?👀

Simply put, ‘cloud’ is just a metaphor for the internet.

Cloud computing is the on-demand delivery of Information Technology resources via the internet, with pay-as-you-go pricing. It is the way of using I.T. that has FIVE equally important traits:

  • On-demand and self-service With the cloud, you get all the computing resources that you need on-demand and self-service. By using a simple interface, you get all the processing power, storage, and network that you need.

  • Broad network access You can access all these resources over the Internet from anywhere you want.

  • Resource pooling The providers of these resources have a large pool of these and allocates them to the customers out of that pool. So customers don't have to care about the exact physical location of the resources.

  • Rapid Elasticity You can scale up or scale back rapidly.

  • Measured Service The customers pay only for what they use.

But why this model is so compelling nowadays?

Let us take a look at why cloud computing? and understand how these traits help improve business technology. It might face some roadblocks in the process. Some of these can be:

  • Small team size
  • Unpredictability of demand
  • Limited resources

That's when cloud computing comes into the picture. Using the resources and services offered by cloud computing the firm no longer requires human intervention to get resources , can access resources from anywhere, share the resources to customers, get more resources quickly when needed, and pay only for what they consume.

So, with cloud computing, instead of buying, owning, and maintaining physical data centers and servers you can access technology services, such as computing power, storage, and databases, on an as-needed basis from a cloud provider. The Cloud is the solution to many problems and is helping improve Business Technology, it is growing exponentially and will continue to do so for some time to come.
